World mission

Our life is enriched through close relationships with other parts of the world-wide church.  We are committed to supporting the work of mission both home and abroad.  We believe in sharing the love of God in words and in deeds.

Traidcraft

Traidcraft is an organisation committed to relieving poverty by encouraging fair trade. They offer advice, training and resources to producers in developing countries. Traidcraft foods and craft items are sometimes organic or of recycled materials. They appeal to western markets, without compromising wages or working conditions. Their items can be purchased at St Luke's and also in local stores such as Asda, the Co-op, Corsons (Central Avenue) and Oxfam. You can buy Traidcraft goods at St Luke's from the stall run by Catherine Fraser and Sheila McGregor.

Jos, Nigeria

We have a long-standing link with the Diocese of Jos, central Nigeria.  Our previous incumbent, Revd Steve Silvester and other members from St Luke's have visited Jos to speak and attend Clergy Conferences and encourage our links in Nigeria.  We are regularly in touch with Susan Essam our CMS link missionary, and Archbishop Ben and Mrs Gloria Kwashi, who visit St Luke's whenever they are in the UK and are able to do so.

Education for Life

The founders of this charity, Glyn & Jane Davies, built and run nursery, primary and secondary schools for children in Mombasa, Kenya. As well as providing an education they run a feeding programme providing a hot meal for all the children in school plus any others who come to the school gate. Glyn & Jane visit St Luke’s when they are in England and the Cole family have been out to Mombasa to work in the schools.

Euro Trek Ministries

One of our members, Stuart Holden, has a concern for people in Eastern Europe and over recent years he has taken teams of people from West Bridgford to share their faith in churches in Poland, Estonia and Russia. He has also taken aid to Orphanages in Bulgaria. Further details can be found on Euro Trek web site. Some young people from local churches, including St Luke's, have been involved in running children's holiday camps in Poland. Please contact 0115 981 3412 for more information about Euro Trek Ministries.

Friary Drop-in centre

Members from St Luke's work at the Friary Drop-in both as part of their staff and on a voluntary basis.  The Drop-in Centre is based in West Bridgford where homeless people are helped and served. They also have volunteer workers from different churches in West Bridgford.
